INTRODUCTION: Detection of iron deficiency (ID) remains challenging. We aimed to evaluate the performance of reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (Ret-He) as a potential diagnostic marker to assess ID and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in a large pediatric cohort. METHODS: A total of 3158 patients (aged 15 days to 19 years with a median age of 8.5 years; 60.2% female) were retrospectively studied. Statistical analysis was performed (a) to evaluate relationship of Ret-He with other relevant complete blood count and iron panel parameters; (b) to compare the levels of Ret-He in ID and IDA groups to a control group; and (c) to assess sensitivity and specificity of Ret-He in ID, IDA, and anemia without ID groups. RESULTS: Ret-He values were significantly positively correlated to ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT). The median Ret-He was significantly lower in ID. A Ret-He cutoff of ≤30.0 pg distinguished cases of ID from the control group with a sensitivity of 90.2%, specificity of 59.5%, and area under curve (AUC) of 0.88. Ret-He showed better diagnostic performance in the IDA group and acceptable performance for ID without anemia. The sensitivity, specificity, and AUC were 90.1%, 80.9%, and 0.93 for IDA at cutoff value of ≤27.4 pg, and 80.8%, 51.1%, and 0.70 for ID without anemia at cutoff value of ≤30.8 pg, respectively. CONCLUSION: Our large pediatric tertiary care hospital study demonstrates that Ret-He is a reliable marker to help confirm IDA in pediatric population. However, further studies are needed for its use to capture the early stages of ID.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of red cell transfusion in a given blood unit that relied on both quantity and quality of donated cells undoubtedly affects prognostic outcomes. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to determine the frequency of subclinical functional hemoglobin and red cell abnormalities in donated blood of Fayoum University Hospital in Egypt. Additionally, to assess the usefulness of reticulocyte mean hemoglobin content (RET-He) and immature reticulocyte fraction (IRF) as screening measures for such abnormalities. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 200 volunteer blood donors who met the national standard criterion of blood donation. Complete blood count with reticulocyte parameters, serum ferritin, sickling test, G6PD assay, Mentzer index, and naked-eye single tube red cell osmotic fragility test were carried out. RESULTS: Functional red cell abnormalities represented 44 % of this cohort. Out of them, 4.5 % had iron deficiency, 11 % had a positive sickling test, 19 % had G6PD deficiency, and 9.5 % had suspicious thalassemia. The sensitivity and specificity test for RET-He in selective identification of functional hemoglobin abnormalities in donated blood were 83.3 % and 61.2 %, respectively at a cutoff value of 26.9. Though there was no statistically significant effect of RET-He on the selective detection of G6PD deficiency, IRF had a statistically significant high level with a p-value of 0.04. CONCLUSION: Subclinical functional red cell abnormalities seem to be prevalent among blood donors. Reticulocyte/ erythrocyte indices could be useful screening tools for red cell abnormalities. Further studies are required for assessing the impact of transfusing such abnormalities to neonates and other critical recipients.

Abstract Introduction During pregnancy, women are at an increased risk of developing iron-deficiency anemia. Objective The objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic performance of the reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (RET-He) in the early detection of iron-deficiency anemia in a group of pregnant women and to establish a reference range for this parameter in a group of control individuals. Method: A total of 60 patients and 130 control subjects were included in the study. Blood samples collected from the subjects were submitted to a complete blood count and a serum ferritin test and the data were analyzed by comparing the groups and ROC curves. Results The reference range found for the RET-He was between 29.75pg and 38.24pg, with a median of 35pg. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis for the ferritin parameter showed an area under the curve of 0.732 for the RET-He, 0.586 for hemoglobin, 0.551 for the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration and 0.482 for the mean corpuscular volume. Conclusion Early diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy is essential to prevent damage to both maternal and fetal health. The RET-He presents an excellent potential as an auxiliary tool for the diagnosis of iron deficiency in pregnant women.

INTRODUCTION: The Thomas-plot has proven to be a helpful tool to discriminate between different types of anemia. This plot combines the reticulocyte hemoglobin content (Ret-He) with the soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR)/log ferritin (fer) ratio. In this study, we designed an alternative Thomas-plot in which Ret-He is combined with the transferrin (Tf)/log ferritin ratio. We validated both Thomas-plots in a population of anemic patients and compared the performance to the current laboratory diagnostics of anemia. METHODS: A total of 536 anemic patients were included. The first 188 patients were used to generate ROC curves to define the optimal cut-off values for both Thomas-plots. With the following 348 patients included we studied the performance of the alternative and classical Thomas-plots compared to current anemia diagnostics. RESULTS: Cut-off values were defined (Ret-He: 31.2 pg, sTfR/log(fer): 0.91, and Tf/log(fer): 1.71). With both Thomas-plots the amount of e causa ignota (ECI) cases dropped from 39% to 27%. A more in depth analysis on the iron status of anemia of chronic disease (ACD) patients and a subdivision between latent and classical iron deficiencies could be made with the help of both plots. A shift from classical iron deficiency anemia (IDA) cases according to the classical Thomas-plot toward functional IDA according to the alternative Thomas-plot was observed. CONCLUSION: The alternative Thomas-plot is an effective tool that gives a more in depth view on the iron status of anemic patients. In addition, it is easier to implement due to the use of transferrin rather than the soluble transferrin receptor.

Anemia involving a variety of etiological sources constitutes a common side effect of long-term liver diseases. Anemia caused by an iron deficiency (IDA) is a prominent kind of anemia among various other types. Blood ferritin levels and other iron-related indicators can be used to identify anemia. On the other hand, it is now possible to quantify reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (Ret-He), which indicates the reticulocyte iron concentration. It would be useful to diagnose IDA immediately if Ret-He could evaluate the ID. The effectiveness of Ret-He to diagnose ID in Bangladeshi patients was investigated in an ongoing study. Whole bloodstream numbers, blood ferritin phases, and Ret-He concentrations were measured in a cohort of 215 Bangladeshi people. Hemoglobin (Hb) values less than 12 gm/dL were considered anemia. An individual was classified as iron deficient if their blood ferritin concentration was below 12 ng/mL. Participants were split into four groups for this study: non-ID groups with anemia, IDA, ID, and control groups. In comparison to patients with IDA and ID, the concentrations of Ret-He showed a downward tendency. Serum Ret-He levels were correlated with ferritin levels in the subjects. The measurement of the area around the intercept (AUC) for Ret-He on the ROC curve was 0.906, suggesting a correlation with diagnosis. The study's results provide optimism for the therapeutic use of Ret-He value as an indicator for identification in Bangladeshi patients. Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is still a major global health problem. Determination of reference ranges for complete blood count (CBC), reticulocyte hemoglobin content (Ret-He), immature reticulocyte fraction (IRF), and reticulocyte production index (RPI) are essential to help diagnose a disease. Purpose: The study aims to know the prevalence of IDA, risk factors that influence it, and set a reference range for CBC and reticulocyte parameters in infants aged 9-11 months in Indonesia. Patients and Methods: The study was conducted prospectively at 10 Community Health Centers in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, from August 2020 to August 2021. Results: This study recruited 100 healthy infants (47% boys, 53% girls) aged 9-11 months. The prevalence of IDA was 32%. There is no association between IDA prevalence with the mother's education and occupation, maternal parity, family income, and infant nutritional status (p > 0.05). The reference range for hemoglobin (Hb) at P2.5-P97.5, P3-P97, P5-P95 and mean ± 2SD was 11.06 to 14.34 g/dL, 11.10 to 14.31 g/dL, 11.13 to 13.90 g/dL and 10.57 to 13.65 g/dL, respectively. This study also defined the reference ranges for reticulocyte parameters. Conclusion: The reference range of CBC, Ret-He, IRF, and RPI for healthy infants aged 9-11 months in this study can be used as a benchmark.

BACKGROUND: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is common in critically ill patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), and it can lead to severe consequences. Precise and immediate diagnostics are not available, but they are inevitably needed to administer adequate therapy. Serological parameters such as serum ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT) are heavily influenced by simultaneous inflammation reactions, resulting in the need for more suitable parameters. Reticulocyte biomarkers such as reticulocyte hemoglobin content (RET-He) and Delta-hemoglobin equivalent (Delta-He) determined by fluorescence flowcytometry are more specific for the diagnosis of IDA-based anemia and should be investigated for this purpose. METHODS: In a prospective cohort single-center study, serum ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT) were collected and compared to RET-He and Delta-He by performing a receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. The sensitivity and specificity of a single variable or the combination of two variables, as well as cutoff values, for the diagnosis of IDA were calculated. A group comparison for IDA patients without IDA was performed for a control group. RESULTS: A total of 314 patients were enrolled from an interdisciplinary ICU. RET-He (area under the curve (AUC) 0.847) and Delta-He (AUC 0.807) did indicate iron-deficient anemia that was more specific and sensitive in comparison to serum ferritin (AUC 0.678) and TSAT (AUC 0.754). The detection of functional iron deficiency (FID) occurred in 28.3% of cases with anemia. CONCLUSIONS: Determination of RET-He and Delta-He allows for the increased precision and sensitivity of iron-deficient anemia in the ICU.

Anemia, iron deficiency and other hematinic deficiencies are a major cause of perioperative transfusion needs and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Anemia can be caused either by decreased production of hemoglobin or red blood cells or by increased consumption and blood loss. Decreased production can involve anything from erythropoietin or vitamin B12 insufficiency to absolute or functional lack of iron. Thus, to achieve the goal of patient blood management, anemia must be addressed by addressing its causes. The traditional parameters to diagnose anemia, despite offering elaborate options, are not ideally suited to giving a simple overview of the causes of anemia, e.g., iron status for erythropoiesis, especially during the acute phase of inflammation, acute blood loss or iron deficiency. Reticulocyte hemoglobin can thus help to uncover the cause of the anemia and to identify the main factors inhibiting erythropoiesis. Regardless of the cause of anemia, reticulocyte hemoglobin can also quickly track the success of therapy and, together with the regular full blood count it is measured alongside, help in clearing the patient for surgery.

In order to reduce iron deficiency in neonates at-risk for iron deficiency, we implemented a guideline to increase the consistency of early iron supplementation in infants of diabetic mothers, small for gestational age neonates and very low birthweight premature neonates. Three years following implementation we performed a retrospective analysis in order to assess adherence to the guideline and to compare timing of early iron supplementation and reticulocyte-hemoglobin (RET-He) values at one month of life in at-risk infants. Adherence with early iron supplementation guidelines was 73.4% (399/543) with 51% (275/543) having RET-He values obtained at one month. Despite good adherence, 16% (44/275) had RET-He <25 pg (5th percentile for gestational age). No infants receiving red blood cell transfusion (0/20) had RET-He <25 pg vs. 26.1% (40/153) of those treated with darbepoetin (p < 0.001). There was no evidence of increased feeding intolerance (episodes of emesis/day) with early iron supplementation.

In a two-part process, we assessed elements of the principal hormonal pathway regulating iron homeostasis in human neonates. Part 1: Quantifying erythropoietin (Epo), erythroferrone (ERFE), hepcidin, and relevant serum and erythrocytic iron-related metrics in umbilical cord blood from term (n = 13) and preterm (n = 10) neonates, and from neonates born to mothers with diabetes and obesity (n = 13); Part 2: Quantifying serum Epo, ERFE, and hepcidin before and following darbepoetin administration. Part 1: We measured Epo, ERFE and hepcidin in all cord blood samples. Epo and ERFE levels did not differ between the three groups. Preterm neonates had the lowest hepcidin levels, while neonates born to diabetic women with a very high BMI had the lowest ferritin and RET-He levels. Part 2: Following darbepoetin dosing, ERFE levels generally increased (p < 0.05) and hepcidin levels generally fell (p < 0.05). Our observations suggest that the Epo/ERFE/hepcidin axis is intact in the newborn period.

BACKGROUND: Measurement of reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (RET-He) is rapid, convenient, and cost-effective. Yet, researches on its performance in diagnosing iron deficiency with concurrent inflammation are limited. Hence, this study investigated RET-He value in various states, including inflammation, and evaluated its diagnostic performance in iron status assessment. METHODS: Retrospectively, 953 clinical data and laboratory results-complete blood count, reticulocyte count, RET-He, and serum ferritin-were reviewed. Patients on iron therapy were excluded. Iron status was defined by serum ferritin as the reference method. RET-He among populations was investigated. Its diagnostic performance and optimal cutoff were determined by ROC analysis. RESULTS: Three population groups were classified: healthy control, iron deficiency anemia (IDA), and non-ID anemia. Significantly, RET-He value in IDA was lower than that of healthy control, anemia of inflammation, and chronic kidney disease (P < .0001). Low RET-He was also observed in IDA with concomitant inflammation despite normal-to-high serum ferritin levels. No significant difference was observed between RET-He values in pure IDA and thalassemia (P = .57). ROC curve analysis revealed AUC of 0.876 (P < .0001) at cutoff 30 pg, by which IDA was discriminated with 74.2% sensitivity and 97.4% specificity. Applying cutoff ≤30 pg, IDA can be diagnosed with 96% sensitivity, 97.4% specificity, 80% PPV, and 99.6% NPV. Hence, RET-He >30 pg signifies a non-IDA state. CONCLUSION: In addition to convenience and cost-effectiveness, RET-He cutoff >30 pg can be potentially used to exclude IDA due to its excellent diagnostic sensitivity and specificity.

OBJECTIVE: To establish a new indicator derived from reticulocyte hemoglobin (Ret-He) content and red blood cell (RBC) indices for screening for iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in an area in whch thalassemia is prevalent. METHODS: Blood specimens from 304 women aged between 18 and 30 years residing in northeast Thailand were collected and measured for RBC and reticulocyte parameters. Iron deficiency was diagnosed when a participant had a serum ferritin level of less than 15 ng per mL. Thalassemia genotypes were defined by hemoglobin (Hb) and DNA analyses. RESULTS: Of the total participants, 25% had iron deficiency (ID) and 50% carried the thalassemia gene. Various mathematical formulas were established and analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The formula derived from Ret-He: (Ret-He/RDW-SD) × 10, was the best predictor for identifying ID among participants (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.812). Further testing of this indicator among individuals with positive thalassemia-screening results revealed stronger performance with an AUC of 0.874. CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicate that the formula derived from Ret-He might be applicable for screening ID in areas in which thalassemia is prevalent.

@#Introduction: Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) is the most common cause of anaemia. The diagnosis of IDA, however, remains a challenge and is a problem worldwide. Serum iron study is commonly used for IDA diagnosis but there are some limitations. This study was conducted to evaluate reticulocyte-haemoglobin equivalent (Ret-He) as a screening tool for IDA diagnosis in adults. Method: This is a comparative case control study conducted in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan consisting of adult patients with iron deficiency anaemia and a healthy control group. Haematological parameters (Hb, RBC count, MCV, MCH, RDW) inclusive of Ret-He and serum iron parameters (serum iron, transferrin saturation and serum ferritin) were measured. Correlation between Ret-He with other haematological and serum iron parameters were analysed. Results: There were 103 IDA adult patients with majority of them being female (85.4%) with median age of 36 years old. Malay ethnicity (79.6%) contributed to the larger proportion of adult IDA patients. The Ret-He value for patient and control groups were 16.50 ± 4.90 pg and 34.80 ± 1.97 pg, respectively. Ret-He was 89.32% sensitive and 100% specific with 100% positive predictive value (PPV) and 73.11% negative predictive value (NPV) when compared to transferrin saturation. There was significant correlation between Hb, MCH, MCV, RDW and serum iron, transferrin saturation and serum ferritin parameters with Ret-He. Conclusion: Ret-He together with a complete blood count, may serve as an alternative to the serum iron parameters for screening of IDA in adults.

As a type of congenital microcytic hypochromic anemia, thalassemia trait is often confused with other conditions, such as congenital sideroblastic anemia (CSA) and iron deficiency anemia, before a specific work-up is performed. However, these tests, including hemoglobin (Hb) electrophoresis, gene mutations and Prussian blue staining after bone marrow aspirate, are relatively expensive, time-consuming and invasive. To find labor-saving parameters to facilitate differential diagnosis, we retrospectively analyzed the routine blood indexes of 59 thalassemia trait cases [22 α-thalassemia (α-thal), 36 ß-thalassemia (ß-thal) and one α/ß-thal], 21 CSA patients, and 238 iron deficiency anemia controls. Significantly higher reticulocyte Hb equivalent (Ret-He) and lower red blood cell (RBC) distribution width (RDW) were prominent in thalassemia trait. Furthermore, RDW-standard deviation (SD) was independent of the severity of anemia in thalassemia trait, similar to Ret-He in CSA. In the context of the same grades of anemia, Ret-He combined with RDW was powerful in differentiation of thalassemia from CSA and iron deficiency anemia. By receiver operation curve (ROC) analysis, Ret-He had a specificity of 67.06% and a sensitivity of 76.92% with a cutoff value of 20.9 pg for thalassemia trait in mild anemia and a specificity of 84.09% and a sensitivity of 68.42% with a cutoff value of 19.1 pg for thalassemia trait in moderate anemia. Regarding CSA, Ret-He had 92.94% specificity and 60.00% sensitivity in mild anemia, with a cutoff value of 18.1 pg. Overall, Ret-He and RDW are two convenient indexes able to differentiate thalassemia from the other two microcytic anemias, CSA and iron deficiency anemia.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether or not reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (RET-He) is a superior indicator of blood count and other iron parameters in terms of diagnosing iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA), and thus evaluating a patient's response to oral iron treatment. METHODS: The research population consisted of 217 participants in total: 54 control, 53 ID, 58 non-ID anemia, and 52 IDA patients. A hemoglobin (Hb) value of < 130.0 g/L was defined as indicating anemia for men, while an Hb value of < 120.0 g/L was defined as indicating anemia for women. All patients were administered 270 mg oral elemental iron sulphate daily. RESULTS: The RET-He was significantly lower in the IDA group, compared to other groups (IDA: 21.0 ± 4.1, ID: 26.0 ± 4.9, non-ID anemia: 32.1 ± 6.8, control: 36.6 ± 7.0; < 0.001). The ID group had a lower RET-He compared to the non-ID anemia group and the control group. On the 5th day of treatment, the ID and IDA group showed no significant differences in terms of Hb while the RET-He level demonstrated a significant increase. The increase in the RET-He level observed in the IDA group on the 5th day was significantly higher compared to the increase observed in the ID group. A RET-He value of 25.4 pg and below predicted ID diagnosis with 90.4% sensitivity and 49.1% specificity in IDA patients, compared to the ID group. CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study, therefore, suggest that RET-He may be a clinically useful marker in the diagnosis of ID and IDA.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of reticulocyte hemoglobin (Ret He) estimation in subtyping of anemia and to find the correlation of Ret He with the severity of anemia. METHODS: Ninety-four patients with rheumatic diseases with anemia were enrolled. Blood samples were taken to determine various parameters. Patients were divided into three groups: iron deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease with iron deficiency and anemia of chronic disease depending on the iron status and inflammatory markers. Analysis of variance and Pearson correlation coefficient were used. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to evaluate the accuracy of the parameters in differentiating anemia. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences among groups were seen with regard to parameters such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, serum ferritin, total iron binding capacity, transferrin saturation, transferrin receptor protein, soluble transferrin receptor/log ferritin and Ret He. Ret He correlates with the subtype of anemia in patients with rheumatic disorders but it does not correlate with the severity of anemia. Soluble transferrin receptor/log ferritin, Ret He and serum ferritin values were the best parameters to differentiate between various groups. Ret He (pg) values of <24, 24-26.5 and >26.5, while serum ferritin levels (µg/L) of <35, 35-178 and >178 were highly sensitive and specific for iron deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease with iron deficiency and anemia of chronic disease groups, respectively. CONCLUSION: In cost constraints settings, a simple investigation like Ret He alone or with serum ferritin can help us to diagnose and differentiate between the different types of anemia accompanying rheumatological disorders without doing other serum iron studies and expensive tests like transferrin receptor protein which are not readily available.

RESUMO

Treatment in IRIDA focuses on use of intravenous iron preparations to circumvent oral absorptive defect resulting from high levels of hepcidin due to TMPRSS6 gene variations. However, recent case reports and recommendations on atypical microcytic hypochromic anemias advocate use of oral iron and vitamin c trial before parenteral iron, as the same results in comparable improvement in haemoglobin. We prospectively evaluated our IRIDA cohort (n = 7) with oral iron and vitamin c dose over a period of 10 weeks and noted complete response in majority (6/7 = 86%) with >2 g/dL rise in Hb along with significant improvement of other iron related indices.

BACKGROUND: It is important to detect Latent Iron Deficiency (LID) to prevent development of an overt iron deficiency anemia. Early detection is difficult by using conventional hematological and biochemical parameters. Soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) is presently the gold standard for diagnosing LID. We evaluated the utility of Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Equivalent (Ret-He), a newer hematological parameter, to predict LID in blood donors as compared to sTfR. METHODS: This was a randomized prospective study performed on 501 donor samples over a period of three-months. All donors were included after administering medical history questionnaire and a brief physical examination in accordance with national guidelines (Hb ≥12.5). Additional samples were collected during donation according to the institutional standard operating procedure (SOP). All hemograms were performed on the Sysmex XE-2100 analyzer which included Ret-He. sTfR was measured in batch assays by ELISA (Biovendor, Czech Republic). Ret He <28 pg and sTfR≥3µg/ml were used to diagnose LID. Serum Iron, Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) and Serum Ferritin were also measured simultaneously. RESULTS: Of the 501 blood donors, sTfR and Ret-He detected LID in 148 and 135 donors respectively. In comparison to sTfR, Ret-He had sensitivity of 92.7%, a specificity of 97.16%, PPV of 93.1% and NPV of 96.3%. Serum Ferritin, TIBC and serum Iron had comparatively lower sensitivity of 87.16%, 79.7% and 77.7% respectively. CONCLUSION: Ret-He can be used as a routine screening test to detect LID in blood donors. This could provide an opportunity to make appropriate and timely interventions like dietary changes or drug supplementation.

BACKGROUND: The integrated evaluation of traditional and innovative red blood cell (RBC) and reticulocyte parameters is a rapid, inexpensive and non-invasive diagnostic tools for differential diagnosis and follow-up of anemia and other pathological conditions needing bone marrow erythropoiesis assessment. Therefore, estimating the biological variation (BV) of these parameters is essential for evaluating the analytical performance of hematological analyzers, and for enabling accurate data interpretation and appropriate clinical management. This study aims to define short- and medium-term BV estimates and reference change value (RCV) of RBC and reticulocyte parameters. METHODS: Twenty-one healthy volunteers participated in the assessment of medium-term BV (blood sampling once/week, five consecutive weeks) and 22 volunteers in the assessment of short-term BV (blood sampling once/day, five consecutive days) using Sysmex XN. Outlier analysis was performed before CV-ANOVA, to determine BV estimates with confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: Medium- and short-term within-subject BV were between 0.3% and 16.4% and 0.2%-10.4% (MCH and IRF), respectively, whereas medium and short-term between-subjects BV ranged between 0.9% and 66.6% (MCHC and Micro-R) and 1.4%-43.6% (MCHC and IRF), respectively. The RCVs were similar for all parameters in both arms of the study, except for hemoglobin, RDW-CV and MCV. CONCLUSIONS: This study allowed for estimating the BV of many RBC and reticulocyte parameters, some of which have not been currently explored. For RBC, hemoglobin, RDW-CV and MCV it seems advisable to use RCV calculated according to monitoring time and/or differentiated by sex. As regards analytical goals, we suggest using the most stringent targets found in the short-term arm of this study.
